about

Formed in the Australian bush, The Seduceaphones are group of diverse musicians brought together through a love of world dance music. Their beginnings were wild, creating genre bending music that moved crowds in completely new and unusual ways. Now, they are pioneering a new vein of Balkan brass fusion that is as infectious as it is innovative.

Their debut gig in 2014 involved cramming their entire community into a small bush hall, with seemingly hundreds more than the building allowed for. This led to a multitude of shows in the less reputable parts of Melbourne, growing a cult like and devoted following. This in turn led to shows in bars and pubs, where they were ironically still too young to enter.

Their debut album Muskrat, which they released at the Night Cat in 2019, flagged a new trajectory for the band. The music was developing a heavier Eurotrash sound, drawing on the virtuosity of new Macedonian and Australian talent. Moments such as a raucous midnight show at Falls Festival and a sweltering midday show at Moomba festival demonstrate the bands’ diversity and spontaneity. This diversity has made them much loved at both bush doofs and jazz festivals.

The bands trubai [gypsy brass band] influence has made them popular with the diaspora in Australia. Flying across the country to perform at weddings, christenings and frenzied Balkan parties has left an important mark on the style of the band. Innovative arrangements of traditional repertoire, from the gipsy greats such as Fanfare Ciocarlia and Dzambo Agusev, form a significant part of their music.

Their release of a remix EP and a number of remarkable music videos during Covid-19 lockdown has yet again proven the bands determination to make their music heard. The recent easing of restrictions has allowed the band back into the studio, with plans for a feature-length album to be released in late 2020.

lyrics

Proljeće na moje rame slijeće
Đurđevak zeleni
Đurđevak zeleni
Svima osim meni

Drumovi odoše a ja osta
Nema zvijezde Danice
Nema zvijezde Danice
Moje saputnice

Ej kome sada moja draga
Na đurđevak miriše
Na đurđevak miriše
Meni nikad više

Evo zore evo zore
Bogu da se pomolim
Evo zore evo zore
Ej Đurđevdan je
A ja nisam s onom koju volim

Njeno ime neka se spominje
Svakog drugog dana
Svakog drugog dana
Osim Đurđevdana

The Seduceaphones Melbourne, Australia

‘imagine a balkan brass band woke up at a bush rave and decided to join in the fun’ – Joe Gould, Crooked Fiddle Band

The Seduceaphones formed in the Australian bush with a Balkan gipsy party on their minds. Weaving traditional trumpet melodies over Eurotrash grooves, they created a sound that has never failed to move their crowd in new and unusual ways.
